Small business owners wanting to get more from their SEO while decreasing spending know how difficult it can be to stay up to date with best practices. An SEO mistake can have tangible consequences in the form of a penalty in search results. These techniques to boost SEO ranking are not only simple and effective, they’re legitimate.

Get links on authoritative domains

One of the best ways to boost your rankings is to get links on authoritative websites or domains, such as .edu or .org domains. Approach local organizations in your niche and offer to write a guest blog post or give a free talk to get an authoritative .org link to your website. Try commenting on authoritative domain blogs to get backlinks.

Many .gov, .org, or .edu websites offer resource pages. By approaching the right folks, you can get your site listed as a resource and generate dozens of backlinks. Search for resources plus your keyword in site:.edu or site:.gov to see .edu or .gov resource pages. Email page administrators asking to be listed the next time they update their page.

Get listed on local directories

If you have a physical business, you must get listed on local directories to be found by users near you searching for your products or services. Getting listed on local directories like Yelp or Google My Businesses is as simple as claiming your business and completing a profile. You’ll be rewarded with web traffic, business phone calls, and a better ranking.

Offer a scholarship

Receive a ton of .edu links for a small fee by offering a scholarship to local university students. If you have even an extra $500, this is a cost-effective way to boost your SEO, turn that $500 into strong sales, and support your community.

Host a giveaway

To generate thousands of social shares and get valuable link juice, offer a free product giveaway or social media contest. Every giveaway generates buzz, boosts search rankings, and delivers valuable word-of-mouth attention.

Send free product samples to influencers

Imagine if bloggers and vloggers created content about your product and shared it with audiences of millions. Sounds good, right? Well, this can happen to you if you identify top blog and vlog creators in your niche and send them free product samples. Approach potential reviewers via email, make a personal connection, then let them know about your product and invite them to receive a free sample. Keep the email short and courteous. If you get a review on a blog, monitor the comments and respond to increase links and build trust.

Write guest posts

Yes, writing guest posts is time-consuming. However, this classic way of getting more traffic and increased search rankings should not be overlooked. Guest blogging will also increase your authority, grow your brand awareness, and lead to sales. Guest blog on sites with stronger rankings than yours to benefit from their authority.

It will take time to increase your search engine results, so do not be disappointed if the work does not pay off overnight. Know that the time is well worth it if you can outrank your local competitors and increase your market share.
