How to Organize Outstanding Team Building Events [VIDEO]

You’ve come a long way since your solopreneur days. Now that you have your own team, there are a lot of things to think about, including taking your team on an offsite team building activity.

If you feel like that’s not a high priority, take a moment to reconsider. Team building events have a lot of benefits. That’s why Alexandra Kenin, founder of Urban Hiker SF, sat down to chat with us on Ignition—to share not only why, but also how to do effective team building events.

Kenin says that team building events boost morale and bring colleagues together in a context that encourages them to get out of “office mode.” This encourages people to get to know each other better, and if they like and respect each other as people, they’ll be more likely to want to take on projects and beat deadlines.

So what makes a good team builder? Here are some things to think about:

  • Would you want to do the activity yourself?
  • Does it sound fun to you?
  • Can everyone on the team participate?

If you don’t want to do the choosing yourself, you can always open it up to a vote on a few different activities.

Finally, when assessing your budget, try to go for group rates or shorten the timespan to tailor it more to your budget. And while you can certainly negotiate, don’t count out free activities, like service projects.
