Ignition: When Your Family Doesn’t Support You [VIDEO]

When are you going to get a real job?

It’s every entrepreneur’s least favorite question, and you’ve probably been on the receiving end of it. The hardest part is when that question comes from your family because they don’t understand – or don’t support – your business.

One of the most difficult personal issues to deal with is when you and your spouse are on different wavelengths when it comes to the money you make and the time you spend working. How do you deal with any resulting dissonance?

That’s the question we tackled on this week’s Ignition. You’ll notice that this week we don’t have a guest expert. That’s because in discussing the question in pre-production, we all agreed that this was one Ramon and I would tackle ourselves, especially since Ramon, as an entrepreneur, has had conversations just like the one we advised Maria to have with her husband.

And of course, it comes down to communication and an open, raw conversation that includes defining expectations, creating a shared vision and bringing in the whole family for support.
