Free Campaign of the Month: Refer a Friend

Imagine there's a big movie about to hit the theaters. The trailer is pretty good, but you're still not entirely sold on forking over money for a movie ticket.

What are you most likely going to do? While you can look at the reviews, chances are you'll end up asking friends and family what they think. If someone loved it, you'll probably go see it. If they hated it, you might spend your ticket money on a different movie instead.

Recommendations from friends, family and your network are powerful things. When the people you trust the most (or even just see every day) recommend something, you're more likely to check it out.

That's why customer referrals are so valuable to businesses. However, creating an automated online system for generating customer referrals on a recurring basis can be challenging, especially with all the anti-spam rules and policies email providers enforce. My friends, today things get easier. In order to help you generate new leads from your existing customers, allow me to unveil the campaign of the month: Refer a Friend.

Asking someone for a referral is pretty simple, hence why this campaign model is lean and easy-to-use. You ask a customer for a referral (either manually or automatically) and all they have to do is provide their friend's name and phone number. Once this happens, you'll get a task to follow up with this newly referred lead.

Who can use it?

Any Infusionsoft customer can download any campaign from the Infusionsoft Marketplace. Being intentional about asking for customer referrals each time should be part of any company's strategy. While it may be more challenging to ask for referrals in certain industries, both B2B and B2C can lower customer acquisition costs by implementing a process to ensure all customers are being asked for referrals.

Anything else I should know?

Infusionsoft takes spam very seriously. There is a reason this campaign isn't asking for the name and email of a referral: it is against our Acceptable Usage Policy to email people whose information was obtained by recommendation. Unless someone provides their contact info to you directly, you cannot email them without permission. Modifying this campaign to collect email addresses and start sending emails automatically can get your app shut down! However, you can call those people and get their email address and permission to send more information. In fact, if I were using this in my business, I'd definitely make sure there was a specific email follow-up for customer referrals once we obtained permission on the phone to email them.
