It may seem like common sense, but Mike Holz, senior strategic consultant with Responsys, said on ClickZ that for business-to-business marketers who want to boost the results they get from the CRM email list, they should try to adjust their cadence, or engaging customers via email when the subscribers want to to read them.

Holz said if you can't afford to increase the frequency of the emails sent, marketers should look at when their customers view their emails and send at a time that is more catered to them. When looking at how to do this, or determining cadence, he said to check the data on customers and see which day the most clicks are achieved, what items get the most clicks and why some items get more than others, among other things.

One other thing that may help is to target what readers want to read from the newsletter by breaking it up into separate parts of the month, Holz said.

Trey Givens said on his blog that to test cadence, marketers can divide up their list to different patterns of communication and choose which pattern was the most effective to use on the overall CRM email list after bringing it back together.
